Mr. Ramirez was elected to the Governing Board in 2018. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in German at the University of Arizona and is certified in German, Spanish, ESL, and math. He taught all of these subjects at different times throughout different years at Onate High School in Las Cruces, NM, Nogales High School, and Rio Rico High School for a total of over 30 years. He also coached basketball at RRHS for 10 years, 3 of them as the head coach.  He coached chess at OHS and RRHS for 27 years leading the Hawks 16 times to the state championship playoffs. He also taught ESL for one year at Rio Salado Community College. Mr. Ramirez retired from Rio Rico High School in 2016 and is currently teaching German at NHS.

     He and Marjorie Ramirez have a daughter, Marisol Ramirez, who was the valedictorian of the Rio Rico High School class of 2008. Marisol also graduated from the University of Arizona and earned her masters in English and Communications at the University of St. Louis , Missouri.   Mr. Ramirez grew up in Santa Cruz County and loves the area, the people and the students. He was the director of the German-American Partnership Program at RRHS for 20 years and took over 300 students to Germany through the school’s exchange program.

     As a Governing Board Member, Mr. Ramirez believes firmly that hard work, discipline, determination, and accountability are the keys to success not only in public education but in all aspects of life. Just as he aspired to do as a teacher, he hopes to make a difference on the Governing Board.
